Nissan Launches Third Generation E-POWER Technology In Europe

YOKOHAMA, Japan – Nearly a years after its global launching, Nissan is releasing the most sophisticated form of its special e-POWER technology.

First released in Europe 4 years earlier, e-POWER was established to provide an electric-drive experience without the requirement to plug in – combining the smooth, simple and easy acceleration and refinement of an EV with the everyday convenience of standard combustion power.

The third generation system has been adequately re-engineered for even better fuel effectiveness, lower emissions and raised improvement. New e-POWER will even more smooth the transition from fuel towards no emissions.

The variety and convenience of diesel, with the refinement and responsiveness of an EV

At the heart of the e-POWER is a distinct concept which delivers genuine client advantages: the petrol engine is used just to produce electricity which is dispersed directly to the electric motor to drive the wheels, in addition to to charge the battery if needed.

Unlike standard hybrids, there is no complicated transmission and coupling to integrate fuel power and electrical energy to drive the wheels, indicating action is immediate and the drive is always smooth, similar to an EV. And like an EV, the regenerative braking system on e-POWER converts kinetic energy into electrical energy, fed back into the battery.

New e-POWER takes this concept and raises it further to provide a best-in-class * balance of performance, EV-like refinement and real-world fuel efficiency – but with the variety and versatility of a traditional combustion engine lorry.

When installed in the European Qashqai, the brand-new, 3rd generation e-POWER brings significant improvements throughout every essential area:

Fuel usage: decreased to 4.5 L/100km (WLTP) – best-in-segment figures
equating to a prospective range of 1200km
CO2 emissions decreased from 116g/km to 102g/km a 12% decrease compared with the existing iteration
Cabin sound: lowered by as much as 5.6 dB compared to previous generation – using EV-like improvement
+10 kW boost in Sport Mode – providing a more responsive and appealing drive

Comprehensive engine changes

At the core of the New e-POWER is a newly-developed 5-in-1 modular powertrain unit, which integrates the electrical motor, generator, inverter, reducer and increaser into a compact and lighter plan. Combined with improvements to engine calibration and sound insulation, the system lowers both sound and vibration under load. Overall, power is up by 11kW, at an optimum of 151kW. The battery capability is unchanged at 2.1 kWh.

Despite having a similar 3 cylinder 1.5-litre turbo configuration as the out-going version, the engine is all-new and is now committed to its application in e-POWER. It embraces Nissan’s proprietary STARC combustion idea, which has actually raised thermal effectiveness to 42% by stabilising in-cylinder combustion – which makes it possible for the engine to operate more quietly and successfully at lower speeds. A new, larger turbo has been fitted, which also brings efficiency gains, permitting a 200 in engine speeds throughout highway driving, contributing to the lower overall noise level.

The variable compression ratio innovation discovered on the previous variation has actually been rendered redundant by the other modifications to the engine.

Additional engine effectiveness has been generated by the modification to 0W16 lubricating oil, minimizing internal friction. European customers who purchase a Qashqai will likewise appreciate the new, longer service intervals which have actually been extended from 15,000 km to 20,000 km.

The net result of all the changes to the e-POWER system is that independent testing using the fuel performance assessment procedure from ADAC, Germany’s leading vehicle association, appears to 16% better fuel economy in real-world conditions, and 14% enhancement on the highway fuel usage versus the existing generation.

Eiichi Akashi, Chief information technology Officer and executive officer, Nissan Motor Corporation, said “This new, third generation e-POWER system redefines Nissan’s hybrid information technology offering smooth and responsive driving in all conditions. We have actually embedded close to a years of knowings to make sure the system is more effective, more refined and more competitive. The launch with Qashqai is just the beginning, we eagerly anticipate providing this innovative powertrain to customers in North America and Japan in FY26, with other markets to follow”.

In the European Qashqai, real-world variety is over 1000km on a complete tank, brand-new e-POWER goes further than many traditional plug-in hybrids – without the requirement for a charging cable television or awaiting a full charge.

A smarter step towards electrical

For lots of chauffeurs, relocating to a totally electric car still includes concerns – about charging, variety, facilities, and habit modification. That’s where e-POWER can be found in.

With its fully electrical motor drive and no plug-in requirement, brand-new e-POWER uses a clear, positive enter amazed driving – integrating the smoothness and instantaneous response of an EV, with the familiar range and convenience of an ICE. It delivers the experience of an electric vehicle, without the viewed difficulties and typical misunderstandings that can still hold some chauffeurs back from changing to fully electric.

And due to the fact that the engine never powers the wheels, the driving feel is entirely electrical, with no gear shifts, no power lag, and no engine sound at low speeds. Yet, unlike a battery electrical lorry, refuelling occurs at any fuel station.

By getting rid of the complexity of modification, e-POWER acts as a real shift innovation – offering customers the benefits of electrical mobility with none of the friction. It’s constructed for drivers who desire something better, but not something unfamiliar.

The most recent Qashqai geared up with new e-POWER is developed at Nissan’s state-of-the-art factory in Sunderland, UK. It will be available in European markets from September 2025 and rollout throughout Africa and Oceania in the months ahead.
