This Hyden based farming business has a position available for a Livestock person with experience operating machinery
A full-time employee is required in the cattle enterprise starting ASAP, primarily in charge of feeding the cattle and helping with the yard work in the feedlot.
The Farm
The farm is 21,000 acres, with about 15,000 acres cropped.
All types of grain are grown, though the predominant crop is barley for the feedlot, and wheat.
The business run a small breeding herd of cattle and a cattle feedlot.

Farm machinery is mainly John Deere equipment for broad acre cropping.
The property is located just out of Hyden. Hyden is a bustling tourism town located in the eastern wheatbelt, with many visiting to view the infamous ‘Wave Rock’, Mulka’s Cave and salt pool.
Main job description for the General Farm hand
This is a long Term permanent role – commitment of 6 months or longer required.
General Farmhand duties – The employee would be required to do all farming duties, including getting machinery prepped for the next season eg seeding or harvest. Fencing may be required as well as the potential for a small amount of cattle work.
Cattle role – This role will be predominantly cattle-based work feeding and daily care of the cattle, both in the field and feedlot. Jobs will include but not limited to: repairs maintenance, water repairs, pen cleaning and trough cleaning to name a few.
Skills you need
Drivers license essential – you will also need your own car.
No smoking is tolerated in either vehicles or buildings.
Fluent English is essential.
A good understanding of occupational health and safety around working on a farm is required. Candidates should be able to work by themselves or with other staff (up to 5 staff, plus working family members).
Candidates that hold a truck license would be great, but this is not essential.
What are your Rewards
The pay rate is dependent upon experience.
All workers are put on a trial period and are assessed over the first couple weeks.
As a guide, starting hourly rates will range $33-$35 plus full keep but the first 2 weeks will be at $30.
Accommodation is provided and all accommodation is donga type accommodation. Everyone has their own room with private ensuite. No smoking is permitted in any inside areas.
Accommodation has a separate communal kitchen with a laundry. The kitchen has free-to-air TV and foxtel. All rooms have free-to-air TV and a small fridge.
Wifi is available in most areas of the farm, with plans to increase coverage and speed.
There is a bbq outside and pit fire, which is a great social hub for staff.
The kitchen is stocked with all utensils including air fryer, oven, toaster etc fridge’s etc.
What can life after work look like
This business provides a great working atmosphere, in a family-owned business. Staff gatherings and social time is part of the business model.
Hyden is a lovely local community. It is a young community with lots of sport etc.
There is a hotel, bakery, and lots of tourism. There are many sporting clubs in town, including football, cricket, tennis, a swimming pool, hockey, netball, croquet and childrens after school programmes.
There is a CRC and a primary school, a doctor comes out weekly, but full time Silver Chain centre available.
The town also offers many areas to volunteer if that is of interest. Karlgarin has a community club. Young hogget’s Group for younger people.
