Job Overview

This premier cow calf operation is seeking a full-time Farmhand that can start as soon as possible.

The business supplies premier replacement heifers to the beef cattle market. It’s in a fantastic location in the southwest of Western Australia and will provide the applicant an opportunity to get involved in the area, learn about cow calf operations and have a flexible work/life balance.

 

The Farm

The farm primarily manages beef cattle and cow calf production. They also undertake hay and silage production.

 

Details of interest

The farmhand role will include the following tasks throughout the year:

  • Feeding out hay and silage via a feed buggy (hay wagon) to cattle up to 3 days a week.
  • Checking animals and maintaining excellent animal welfare, reporting to the manager any welfare or health concerns.
  • Spreading fertiliser with a Marshall multi spreader (behind the JD6140m).
  • Operating the air seeder – seeding from break of season (April) for 8 weeks. 400ha approx. John Deere 6140m with green star autosteer, Duncan 3.8m air seeder.
  • If proficient may conduct some spraying, but only if experienced.
  • Other general roles such as fencing, checking water, working in the cattle yards and moving stock with Ute and motorbike.

 

Skills you need

  • Happy to take on someone who is less experienced but has motivation and passion.
  • This role is very autonomous as there are many properties around the Shire, so the applicant must be able to work efficiently and reliably on their own without constant supervision.
  • Working with cattle is a significant part of the role so knowledge and acceptance of Low Stress Stock handling methods are essential. Experience is advantageous but the attitude and ability to learn and follow the lead of senior staff and owners in this operation is critical.
  • Driver’s license and your own vehicle required.
  • No smokers, vapers and drug users.

Socially there are three pubs, 4/5 coffee shops and plenty of shops located in town.

The major centre of Bunbury is 1 hour away.
